A WARM WINTER CELEBRATION OF FUNKY FIBRE ART. The Murrindindi Beanie and Fibre Festival is a small volunteer organization who use our passion for all things fibre to provide a great community arts event that is open to anyone to enter and in turn provides support for the smaller causes in our beautiful Murrindindi region. This year we are providing our clever, creative, fibre festival via online auction.
Each year the money raised from the sale of beanies and winter warmers is used to support community projects within Murrindindi. Since it’s inception over 6 years ago, the Beanie Fest gives towards Alexandra Rotary, for their provision of firewood for the elderly and infirm living within our community. In 2019 the MBFF enabled Platform Youth Theatre in Yea to run a special program for local kids, while Yea Primary School was given a grant to purchase microphones for their annual musical performance.
The Murrindindi Beanie and Fibre Festival welcomes any group in the Shire of Murrindindi to contact us seeking support for their community based project or club and they can state their cause by emailing the MBFF Committee on murrindindi.beanie.fest.@gmail.com and tell us something about your group, your role within the community and why you would like to receive some funding from the MBFF.
Our annual Beanie & Fibre Festival is a much loved and greatly anticipated community event strongly supported by the whole town of Alexandra and people living throughout Murrindindi Shire and beyond. In fact all items sold at our funky festival are hand crafted and donated by our amazing supporters both here and from overseas. People love the warm and inviting atmosphere, and the opportunity to purchase a really special beanie, winter warmer or tea cosy.
The Beanie Fest also incorporates a competition to inspire and showcase the amazing creativity of fibre lovers from beginners to those who are experienced. All skill levels are catered for and as always we encourage those who are new to creating with fibre to take the plunge and enter the competition. Many of our donated items are made locally within the Murrindindi region and beyond.
This year because of the need for social distancing and to keep everyone safe, we cannot welcome you to the Beanie Festival in Alexandra, but are pleased to offer a fabulous array of beanies and winter warmers via our online Beanie Festival auction. To secure the beanie of your choice, you can bid as many times as you want using your iPone, iPad or computer.
Good luck! We hope you will get that special item!
Beanies for 2020 can be sent or dropped off to 16 Pendlebury St, Alexandra Vic 3714, 13 A’Beckett St, Yea 3717 or Unit 1/16 Salisbury Court, Heathmont Vic 3135. We ask that all beanies and winter warmers be placed in plastic bags. For all other info please see our ‘Enter’ page on this site.
MBFFV is a community based not for profit group promoting products, and art and craft produced locally in the Shire of Murrindindi. The Murrindindi Beanie Fest acknowledges the huge support of the local community and the The Shire of Murrindindi. The Murrindindi Beanie & Fibre Festival Vic is a member of Regional Arts Victoria.
The time is right to get creative again. Even though we are in isolation, it doesn’t mean that you cannot join in on the Beanie Fest fun. Instead of holding workshops, one of our fibre artists in residence, Kaye Adolphson has kits for sale. Check our out Workshop page on this site for further details coming soon. The Murrindindi Beanie and Fibre Festival is always looking for community knitting groups or individuals to get involved and support the festival.
